Dr. Ko Okumura, Ph.D.
Born in 1942, Dr. Okumura graduated from Chiba University School of Medicine and completed his second degree at Chiba University Graduate School of Medicine. He also studied at Stanford University School of Medicine. Over the course of his career Dr. Okumura has served as a lecturer at the University of Tokyo School of Medicine, a professor of immunology at Juntendo University Faculty of Medicine, and the dean of Juntendo University Faculty of Medicine. Currently, he serves as emeritus professor and the director of Juntendo University Atopy Research Center. He has been awarded various honors such as the Baelz Prize, the Takamatsunomiya Prize and the Medical Award of The Japan Medical Association. For his discovery of suppressor T-cells and his role in developing new method to alleviate transplant rejection, he has become an international authority on immunology.
